This is your space - for posting information, sharing resources, highlighting important videos, analyzing maps and images, and most of all, discussing all things related to our debate motion about ecotourism. There are no walls here, so all 22 IB DP Geography students have full access to add, manage and edit the content on these pages.
With that privilege comes responsibility: you can comment on others contributions, however, only edit your own contributions. To begin, go to the CONDUCTING RESEARCH page to learn how to get started, and how to present your research results. You will also find links there to learn about how to use 'wikispaces' (simple video tutorials, instructions, etc).

TEAMS:
  • 'For' team will have 5 members
  • 'Against' team will have 6 members
  • Each team will have a captain speaker, normal speakers, and a closing speaker (details of the structure, and order of debate, please the DEBATE FORMAT page)

STRUCTURE:
  • all students will conduct research and share their results and comment on each others ideas by posting them on this wiki
  • students can add appropriate researched content under the RESOURCES BY STUDENTS page
  • students will not know their debate position (for or against), nor their debate teammates until the day of the debate
  • on the day of the debate, students will draw (out of a box) their position (and therefore, discover who their teammates are), and will have 20 minutes to formulate their collective arguments based on information from the wiki
  • see the SPEAKER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES page for expectations of each speaker

TIMELINE:
  • Monday class (13th Dec.): introduction to ecotourism & debate topic, collaborative research begins
  • Thursday (16th Dec.), by the end of class: all students would have contributed at least 2 pieces of information (articles, summarized information, videos, maps, etc)
  • Tuesday (4th Jan. 2011): by 8pm: all students should have been part of at least 1 discussion thread (assessed on quality of participation), and they should review all the information on the wiki to prepare for the debate the following day
  • Wednesday (5th Jan. 2011): DEBATE DAY!

ASSESSMENT:
The debates will be assessed in the following ways (see DEBATE & WIKI RUBRIC page for details):

DEBATE MOTION:

Ecotourism is an oxymoron
